Health officials say they believe the out-of-hours care provided by private GP companies is not being checked thoroughly enough.
The healthcare regulator in England, the Care Quality Commission, carried out a study after a patient, David Gray, was accidentally killed by a German doctor working his first out-of-hours shift in Britain. Christine Braithwaite, from the Care Quality Commission, said primary care trusts needed to ensure care was good from the out-of-hours GP services they used.
