Jersey fishermen say they will not give up without a fight

Guernsey's authorities are holding a meeting to decide on the terms of their appeal against a court ruling which declared their licensing laws illegal.

In the meantime Jersey fishermen are still banned from fishing in Guernsey waters without a licence.

Guernsey has re-imposed the ban on Jersey fishing boats working without a licence within its three-mile limit.

It is the latest twist in the fishing dispute between the two islands.

Rules brought in at the end of last year meant Jersey fishermen had to apply for licences to fish in a 12-mile area around the island.

In the past, they were allowed to fish in Guernsey waters provided they held a licence from either Jersey or the UK's authorities.

Last week Guernsey's Royal Court ruled the position was illegal, but now an appeal court has agreed to review the decision.

The Jersey politician responsible for fishing, Deputy Mike Taylor, says Jersey fishermen will not give the waters up without a fight.
