Pupils rise to reading challenge

About 1,700 youngsters joined the challenge
Children have been reading during the summer holidays as part of a challenge set by Jersey Library.

About 1,700 youngsters have completed the Reading Rollercoaster during this summer's school holidays.

It is the sixth year the library has organised the challenge for youngsters aged between four and 11.

Saturday is the last day to finish the challenge and all those who do will receive medals and certificates at school.

Each child has to read six books and can then collect different stickers which then complete a picture of characters on a rollercoaster ride.

It was designed to encourage children in Jersey to keep reading during the seven weeks they have had off school this summer.

Because of the extra week holiday this year more youngsters have been reading for the challenge.
