Truth and reconciliation
Albie Sachs
BBC Radio 4's Law in Action was broadcast on Friday, 21 October, 2005 at 1600 BST.

A man who knows more than most about the issues of truth and reconciliation is Justice Albie Sachs of the South African Constitutional Court. As an ANC member and lawyer practising in the apartheid era he was imprisoned, held in solitary confinement, branded a 'terrorist' and finally exiled, ending up in Mozambique.

None of that shook his convictions, but ultimately it resulted in him paying an awful price for them. He was in London this week and Clive Coleman spoke to him about the horrific incident that changed his life and tested his belief in reconciliation.
