Dr Richard Stevens has not been seen since July

Police say 54-year-old Richard Stevens, who went missing three weeks ago, had links with the Lake District.

On Friday, it was thought the doctor had been seen at Liverpool's John Lennon Airport, but police now say the man caught on CCTV was a tourist.

Dr Stevens went missing after arriving for work at Pendlebury Children's Hospital on 21 July.

Sergeant Julie Connor from Greater Manchester Police said officers have been in Cumbria visiting bed and breakfast and guesthouses, where he has known to have stayed.

Detectives say has visited the Grasmere, Ambleside and Windermere areas in the past.

She said they have no definite leads, but they know Dr Stevens he had a passion for fell walking and was a regular visitor to Cumbria.

His family believe the stress of his work may have affected his state of mind.

Police say they are worried Dr Stevens has suffered a nervous breakdown and does not know where he lives.

Detectives have been monitoring his mobile phone and bank records.
