Town's future linked to cycling
A Cumbrian town could become a centre for cycling, and provide an alternative start to the Sea to Sea (C2C) cycle route, under new plans.

People in Maryport are being invited to a special meeting next week to express their ideas on cycling and cycle routes in the area.

The feasibility study aims to identify ways of encouraging people to use bikes to travel to work and for leisure.

It will also look at developing cycle tourism in and around the town.

Hadrian's Cycleway, part of the National Cycle Network, opens in early summer 2006 and will pass through the town.

Members of the public are welcome at Maryport Civic Hall on Wednesday evening to put forward any ideas they may have, pass on information about favourite cycle routes and indicate cycle routes they would like to see developed.
