Motorists in Derby are being warned to prepare for traffic chaos as one of the city's busiest roads closes for a week for sewer repairs.
Severe delays are expected on the A6 Duffield Road between Broadway and Stanley Close as Severn Trent carries out the work.
Kate Cox of Severn Trent said: "We know that this will cause a headache, but it is vital that we carry out this work.
"We are issuing a warning in advance because we know it will cause delays."
A diversion will be put in place during the work, which is scheduled to start on Saturday.
"The inside of the sewer is crumbling and unless we do something there is a real potential that it will collapse and a big hole will open up in the middle of the road," said Ms Cox.
She said the workers insert a tube-like sock into the existing sewer pipe that releases chemicals when heated to create a new sewer pipe inside the old one.
