A highly-contagious stomach bug has hit a Devon college, meaning some 2,000 pupils will be off school next week.
Paignton Community and Sports College will be closed all week as work is carried out to eradicate the virus.
The highly-contagious vomiting bug has swept through the college and on Friday more than a third of the pupils and staff were absent.
Plans to deep-clean the site were made last week, but the head teacher said it had now affected the majority of staff.
Sensible action
The college had originally planned to shut on Monday and Tuesday.
Principal Jane English said the decision to remain closed all week was taken after discussions with the governors and the local authority.
"Having considered all the facts, I have reluctantly decided that the only sensible course of action is to shut the school for a significant period," she said.
"I believe this to be the right decision for staff, pupils and the local community."
