Police staff have new prayer room
Leicestershire Constabulary has become the first Midlands force to open a multi-faith room for use by staff.

Chief constable Matt Baggott has opened the room with a ceremony at force headquarters at Enderby.

Guests included delegates from faith groups, Black Police Association (BPA), Christian Police Association (CPA) and Leicestershire Police Authority.

Businesses donated soft furnishings in the room providing staff with a quiet place for worship and contemplation.

'Quiet reflection'

Insp Baljit Singh, chairperson of Leicestershire's BPA, said: "The creation of this multi-faith room shows a willingness on the part of the constabulary to listen and respond to the needs of staff."

DC Tony Gale, branch leader of the constabulary's CPA said: "It is important to recognise that staff and visitors may have a need to pray.

"This room provides them with a place for quiet reflection away from the busy work environment."

Mr Baggott said: "The creation of the multi-faith room is one way in which we are ensuring the needs of staff are met."

The force has officers and police staff of varying ranks working as equality supporters.

They are trained in diversity and equal opportunity issues to give impartial support to anyone who feels they have been treated unfairly, bullied or harassed.
