New council wardens are issuing around 150 parking tickets each day as part of a crackdown in Leicester city centre.

The city council took over the control of parking enforcement from the police on 2 January.

The authority has taken on 30 new traffic wardens who are targeting cars parked on single and double yellow lines, in disabled bays and bus stops.

The new wardens have issued more than 2,480 tickets in total since they took control of parking enforcement.

Motorists who are caught parking illegally have been warned that they will face a �60 fine.
