Safe Zones 'cut alcohol disorder'
The number of alcohol related crimes has fallen in areas of Lincolnshire where special Safe Zones are set up.

The zones aim to give advice to people on a night out on issues including alcohol abuse, pregnancy and drugs.

After a successful trial in Skegness, the initiative was extended to Louth, Mablethorpe and Ingoldmells.

Now the police have said there has been a reduction in anti-social behaviour in areas where Safe Zone staff have been working with revellers.

'Reaching out'

The Sector Inspector for Skegness, Steve Hill, said: "There are a lot of visitors, a lot of revellers who come here for a good night out and that's what we want to keep, that people enjoy themselves.

"We are part of the Safer East Coast partnership and we are taking this along the coast from Skegness up to Mablethorpe so it is growing."

Will Hart, area youth development worker for the Louth District, believes progress is being made to cut alcohol-related problems.

"The zone we had in July in Louth had meaningful contact with 550 people, so I believe we are getting out to the people we need to reach," he said.
