Work aims to cut A46 collisions
Work to improve the safety record of a major road in the east Midlands will see extra signs and paint added.

There have been three deaths and 28 injuries in three years on a three-mile section of the A46, near Cotgrave.

It will be closed to allow new central hatching markings, double white lines, red-coloured surfacing and signs.

The Widmerpool to Newark section is the only part of the A46 waiting to be upgraded to dual carriageway, between Lincoln and the M1 in Leics.

Overnight closures

The work affects the stretch from Gap Lane to Cropwell Road, near Stragglethorpe.

Highways Agency route manager Jim Allcock said: "We would urge road users to respect the new measures once complete."

The A46 will be closed between the A52 at Bingham and the A606 at Widmerpool for four nights from Tuesday from 1900 GMT to 0730 GMT the following morning.

And there will be daytime lane closures with traffic lights from 0930 GMT to 1530 GMT on weekdays.

The 150,000 work will be carried out by AM Scott on behalf of the Highways Agency.

There are separate longer-term plans to upgrade the remaining single carriage way stretch to two lanes in a 115m project.
