The 7m redevelopment of Nottingham's Old Market Square will be completed by March, organisers have pledged.
The original contract for the project was due to finish in early December, in time for Christmas.
Delays have been caused after contractor Balfour Beatty had difficulties in sourcing stone from China and Ireland.
A city council spokesman said there would be a series of opening events in the square during March.

Three-quarters of the plaza would be open by Christmas, said council spokesman Stephen Barker.
"The square is already partly in use, more things will be in the square after Christmas," he said.
"There will be installations of art coming in the middle of February and we will have a fantastic programme of opening events for March.
"Let's not be down on the thing - let's be upbeat about it," he said.
