Royal Mail stamp vans with Gaelic
Launch in Stornoway of Royal Mail's new dual English and Gaelic livery
The new livery was launched in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis
Royal Mail has launched dual English and Gaelic livery for 71 of its postal vehicles in the Highlands.

They serve postcodes where Gaelic is prominent and have been launched in Stornoway in the Western Isles.

The move is in response to the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act which was passed by the Scottish Parliament in 2005.

All vehicles in the Western Isles, Skye and the Ardnamurchan peninsula will have the new livery.

Royal Mail's Scottish affairs director Ian McKay and the Scottish Executive Minister responsible for Gaelic policy, Peter Peacock, attended the launch.

Mr McKay said: "Royal Mail is extremely proud of the role it plays in delivering to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland."

Gaelic was an integral part of Scottish culture, said Mr Peacock.

He said: "We want it to thrive. That's why the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act was so important.

"It will ensure that the Gaelic language gets the recognition it so richly deserves."
