Great Britain have a track gold for the third night in a row as Matt Hudson-Smith took men's 400m gold, seeing the host nation hold on to top place on the medals table.

And we have to finish with Matthew Hudson-Smith breaking and equalling plenty of records as he won men's 400m gold at the European championships for the third time.

Emily Newnham, 22, secured Great Britain's sixth medal of the championships, surging to the line to take silver from lane nine in the women's 400m hurdles final.

Dina Asher-Smith, Amy Hunt and Success Eduan all made it through the women's 200m semi-finals.

Their final is also tomorrow - what a treat!

Time to start looking back through the best of today's action.

We'll begin with some racing from the morning session as Max Burgin and Ben Pattinson made it through to tomorrow's men's 800m final.

Starting with Zurich 2014, Matthew Hudson-Smith has collated a total of eight European medals.

Tonight he joins France's Christophe Lemaitre as the championships' most-decorated male athlete of all-time.

We've also had men's triple jump qualification this evening.

World and former Olympic champion Pedro Pichardo of Portugal won this title in 2022 and he jumped furthest of those who progressed to Saturday's final, reaching 17.16m.

Andy Díaz Hernandez of Italy was behind him with 17.05, he's the reigning indoor world and European champion, while there were no British athletes involved in this one.

For the second night in a row, Great Britain top the medal table.

Matthew Hudson Smith's gold in the men's 400m and Emily Newnham's silver in the women's 400m hurdles takes them to six medals in the championship.

It is such a tough event and I really hope Sam Bennett does believe in himself and he goes away and he's not too disappointed. Because he's built on a great season and he raced so well in that semi-final to get into the final.

It was unfortunate that he had a bit of tostling and he just lost his balance a bit.

But you can see the potential and talent is there, just hugely frustrating when you have an opportunity that doesn't quite go your way.

"Ultimately, they won't see that race they will see the time."

A race of two halves. We knew what Jakub Szymanski could do at the beginning, but he just ran out of steam.

In two or three years' time, he will be able to keep the momentum and fluency over the barriers. Once Jason Joseph gets into his rhythm, he is strong. He is always on top of the hurdle, which allows him to come down on it again.

That is his strength. We know how great the Americans and Jamaicans are. If Jason Joseph can match them sooner around hurdle four, then he will be one of the main contenders.

Joseph danced his way to the gold medal.

For Sam Bennett, it's been a great journey, he just couldn't add another race to it. But he can look back on what's already been a great summer for him, finishing seventh place.

Jakub Szymanski was the fastest in the qualifiers.

The thing I love about Szymanski is he can raise his game under pressure and he can deliver. Here today, he is desperate to transition from an indoor specialist to an outdoor specialist.

Sam Bennett's real bonus and the best thing about him is he has this great rhythm, and he is in this groove at the moment.

Time for our last event of the night.

We had the semi-finals of the men's 110m hurdles earlier in the evening, with Jakub Szymanski of Poland and Samuel Bennett of Great Britain joint-quickest with times of 13.26 seconds.

That was a personal best for Bennett - can he win a third medal of the night for the host nation?
