England might have impressed in attack on Saturday. But defensively they still leave a lot to be desired. Individual errors against Spain proved costly while the Three Lions were often vulnerable in defence.

They have now shipped 13 goals in their last six matches in all competitions, after conceding only seven in their first 17 games under Thomas Tuchel.

England have lost two of their last three matches in all competitions, as many as in their previous 23 combined. They’ve not lost consecutive games since June/September 2022, also in the Nations League against Hungary and Italy.

England's Nations League campaign got off to a losing start as they were beaten by World Cup holders Spain in an enthralling encounter at Wembley.

Spain struck inside two minutes when Lamine Yamal was the beneficiary of Marc Guehi's error and slotted past James Trafford.

England then managed to survive several close calls before Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane scored in quick succession to give them an unlikely lead before half-time.

However, Kane crucially missed a penalty early in the second half - after Jude Bellingham was brought down in the box - which left the door open for the visitors.

Substitute Alex Baena took advantage of Nico O'Reilly's mistake to equalise before Mikel Oyarzabal concluded a clinical move with a beautifully dinked finish for the winner.

Victory extends Spain's unbeaten run to 39 games, but England must learn lessons from this defeat.

Thomas Tuchel's side need to adopt a more aggressive approach and cut out individual errors, which are always going to be punished against a side of Spain's quality.

Each country in the group plays every other opponent home and away.

After every team has played six matches, the top two advance into the Nations League quarter-finals in March, with the semi-finals and final in June.

If you finish in the bottom two, you could be trying to avoid relegation to League B in 2027.

A lot of talk after the Spain defeat was around England bridging the gap to the world and European champions.

But Thomas Tuchel and his players were adamant that there is no gap between themselves and the best team in the world.

Tuchel said: "We saw no gap except for the technical execution. In the last 20 metres, they were superior than us."

Anthony Gordon, who plies his trade in Spain having joined Barcelona this summer, said: "For me there isn't a gap [to Spain]. It's just moments."

Thomas Tuchel said before the game that he would try to keep the number of changes he makes to his England team as small as possible, depending on the fitness of the players.

Nico O'Reilly is out injured and replaced by Lewis Hall but Tuchel has made a further three changes to the side that lost to Spain on Saturday.

Trevoh Chalobah in for Ezri Konsa, Morgan Rogers comes in for Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold replaces Jarell Quansah.

Tuchel said that the game with the Czech Republic is not "must win yet" but he will know that England will need a result if they aim to reach the knockout stage of the Nations League in March.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has not played for England for one year.

His last appearance came against Andorra in last summer's World Cup qualifiers, where he came on as a substitute for 26 minutes.

Prior to that it was in England's last Nations League campaign.

So James Trafford gets the nod again.

It has been 10 years since someone other than Jordan Pickford started for England in goal at a major tournament.

Trafford started against world champions Spain on Saturday ahead of the Everton shot stopper.

He did a solid job, made some fine saves and in general none of the goals were his fault.

Thomas Tuchel has said he will give Trafford two games and Pickford two games during this international break. Is the jersey up for grabs before Euro 2028?

There were positive signs from England on Saturday against Spain. Front-footed, attacking football which was let down by a couple of individual errors.

But, ultimately the Three Lions are still yet to get on the board in Group A3. Can they get up and running tonight?

Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to make his first start for England in nearly two years against Czech Republic in Prague.

The Real Madrid defender was recalled into the England squad for the Nations League games against Spain, the Czech Republic and Croatia having spent much of Thomas Tuchel’s reign in the international wilderness.

It would be the former Liverpool right-back’s first international start since a 3-1 win over Finland in October 2024.

Alexander-Arnold is set to play in a back four that also consists of Trevoh Chalobah, Marc Guehi and Lewis Hall. Hall is expected to replace Nico O’Reilly, who isn’t in the squad because of fitness issues, while Chalobah is in for Ezri Konsa, who is also unfit to start.

Elsewhere, Morgan Rogers is likely to come into the side in place of Jude Bellingham, who is expected to be rested.
