Scott McTominay opened the scoring with a deflected shot, but Xherdan Shaqiri seized upon a defensive lapse to level.
That was as good as it got for Scotland in Germany as Switzerland went on to the last eight, losing out on penalties to England.

The former left-back came off the bench on 77 minutes, either side of goals from Steven Defour and Kevin Miralles.

Saturday's draw takes Scotland's run of games without a goal to three - after World Cup defeats to Morocco and Brazil.
It was 1971 when Scotland last drew a blank in four successive matches.

Luis Binks, 25, is a right-sided centre-half who started his career at Tottenham but rejected the offer of a contract against the wishes of manager Jose Mourinho to begin his senior career at Montreal Impact - where his boss was Thierry Henry.
He's had spells in Italy at Bologna and Como as well as two seasons with Coventry City in the Championship.
Kent-born Binks, who has a grandparent from Dunbar, is in his second term at Danish top flight side Brondby where is now the captain.
He has been in the Scotland set-up before, at Under-18 level, having also represented England at various age grades.

This Scotland side lacks pace and directness. When you are coming up against a Switzerland side that will try to peg you back at times, that will make a difference. That being said, Ben Gannon-Doak is an excellent option to come off the bench.

Some tactical tweaks at half-time worked wonders as Scotland dominated the second period.
Oli McBurnie and Kieron Bowie both missed great chances, while good saves denied McBurnie and Billy Gilmour and Robbie Ure hit the post just before the break.

'I was very proud to live this moment'
Sebastien Pocognoli says he does not have any concerns about a lack of goals as Scotland prepare for his first home match in charge against Switzerland on Tuesday.
In his debut as head coach on Saturday, a Nations League stalemate in Slovenia was Scotland's third successive match without a goal, following World Cup blanks against Morocco and Brazil in June.
"It was one game. Some games you score. Some games you are unlucky," said the Belgian.
"I don't think there's any concerns from my side to score goals because we have good strikers. It's not only the strikers, but we are creating chances from many positions.
"Let's say we score tomorrow, I hope, and we can open another topic.
"I really hope we can start strong in the game."
Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson, who played the 90 minutes in Ljubljana, echoed his national head coach's thoughts.
"On another day we score two or three," Ferguson said of Saturday's encounter.
"The strikers will be disappointed, but I think we'd be more worried as a group if we weren't creating those chances."

World Cup quarter-finalists Switzerland opened their campaign with a 3-0 victory away to North Macedonia.
They are ranked 14th by Fifa - 28 places above Scotland - and the teams drew 1-1 at Euro 2024, while their last meeting at Hampden was a 3-1 friendly win for the visitors 20 years ago.
Pocognoli hoped Scotland could use the Slovenia match as "like a training session" for the visit of Murat Yakin's side.
When asked about his objectives for Tuesday, he said: "To play 90 minutes like we finished the game in Slovenia.
"The idea will be always and certainly at home to try to take the control of the game as much as possible.
"It will be a special moment, first time at home. I'm really looking forward for that moment since I've been appointed. As a new gaffer, that was really the date that was in my schedule that I want to experience."
Billy Gilmour returned with a player-of-the-match display against Slovenia after missing the World Cup through injury.
Ferguson, who experienced the same injury anguish for Euro 2024, welcomed Gilmour into the fold and believes the two friends have what it takes to form a long-term midfield partnership.
"It's great to have him back," said Ferguson. "We work off each other really well, two completely different profiles and it suits us both. We saw that in the game.
"We bring different things to the pitch and I thought it worked."

Switzerland head coach Murat Yakin missed his country's pre-match media conference, with the Swiss FA saying Yakin had "hearing problems".
"He struggled with the pressure from the flight so can't participate in this press conference," the organisation said.
"He will be at the training session and we hope these complaints will be solved, as has been the case in the past, and he can be in good health for the game.
"There were some problems with the weight as we entered the flight. It means we had to land again in Zurich and they had to put more fuel in the engine."
Yakin's assistant, Davide Calla, said the Swiss have "spent a lot of time looking at Scotland".
And Calla explained: "With the change of coach it will be a different proposition to the Euros but we know what to expect.
"They will be robust, play with a lot of passion and they have a lot of quality players, especially in midfield, with the ball at their feet. In the second half against Slovenia they showed the quality they have. It was clear Scotland were better in the second half.
"It's an absolute highlight playing at this brilliant stadium. We'll have lots of motivation to play in this big match."
Asked about possible team changes, with two more fixtures in this block of games, Pocognoli talked of "experimentation".
He added: "We try to find a balance to get results but also to see different approaches on the pitch. The idea is to have the most information after the camp, to use in the future."
Napoli star Scott McTominay is missing for Scotland as he recovers from a minor heart procedure, while Lawrence Shankland and Che Adams are injured and Kieran Tierney was a late withdrawal, along with Kenny McLean.
Forwards James Wilson and Findlay Curtis were released from a larger than usual squad last week to play in Wednesday's under-21 game against Azerbaijan.
Switzerland beat North Macedonia without the vastly experienced duo of Granit Xhaka and Breel Embolo, who will play no part in this run of matches.
Scotland have won just one of their last six gmaes with Switzerland, losing twice, with this their first meeting since a 1-1 draw at Euro 2024.
Switzerland have won just one of their eight visits to Scotland, losing five times, although that was in their latest visit - by 3-1 in a March 2006 friendly.
Scotland have failed to score in their latest three internationals, twice at the World Cup and in Saturday's Nations League opener in Slovenia. They last failed to score in four consecutive matches between February and May 1971.
Switzerland's 3-1 extra-time defeat by Argentina in this summer's World Cup quarter-final is their only loss in 10 games, while Scotland are without a win in three since beating Haiti at the finals.
Switzerland were 3-0 winners over North Macedonia on Saturday, their biggest away win in the Nations League. They are yet to win back-to-back away matches in the competition.
Saturday's 0-0 draw in Slovenia was Scotland's first under new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli. The last manager to keep a clean sheet in his first two games in charge of the Tartan Army was Andy Roxburgh in 1986 (0-0 draws with both Bulgaria and Republic of Ireland).
Switzerland faced just two shots and no shots on target against North Macedonia, both record lows for them in a Nations League match – they have kept three clean sheets across their last four matches in all competitions.
Hull City striker Oli McBurnie has failed to score in all 17 of his appearances for Scotland in all competitions, with the goalless draw at Slovenia his first game for the national side in 2,005 days.
Burnley midfielder Zeki Amdouni was directly involved in all three of Switzerland's goals in their victory over North Macedonia (two goals, one assist), the first player to have three goal involvements in a Nations League match for the Swiss since Haris Seferovic against Belgium in November 2018.
