Museums' admission fees to rise

The price rises will come into effect on 1 January

Admission prices to various museums and attractions in Guernsey are set to rise in the new year.

The increase, on 1 January, will affect entry to Castle Cornet, The Telephone Museum, and Fort Grey as well as Guernsey Museum & Art Gallery.

Children over the age of seven will be charged �1 to enter the Museum & Art Gallery - they used to get free entry. Local school visits will remain free.

Adult entry to the Museum & Art Gallery will rise 12.5% from �4 to �4.50.

Admission fees were last raised in 2007.

Dr Jason Monaghan, museums director, said the 2009 price rises were intended to catch up with inflation and put museum admission prices on a par with those at Guernsey's other heritage attractions.

However, there will be a number of money-saving offers and season tickets to encourage people to visit the sites, he added.

"Unfortunately we can't let people in for free because we need to raise revenue but admission to our sites are highly discounted," he said.
