Old Contemptables

Veterans Burt Hayward, 71, and and Ray Hurst, 56, from the Royal British Legion Braintree and Broking branch in Essex held aloft one of the few standards remaining in the UK from WWI.

The rare artefact was carried by a group of soldiers called the "Old Contemptables" by the Kaiser, in the battle of Ypres between August and November 1914.
