HIV/Aids pandemic
By 2003 about 15 million children had been orphaned by the Aids pandemic. Eight out of 10 of those children live in sub-Saharan Africa. The disease has sent life expectancies tumbling and deprived millions of children of the chance to grow up in the protection of a loving family.
