Ken Shiers was expecting to pick up his wife at Dumfries station on her way home from Cheltenham. He said: "She phoned me to say she was getting the bus from Preston to Carlisle. She was carrying some heavy bags and will have to get a bus up from Carlisle. The strike has certainly not been well publicised - it's pathetic."
