Ben Simpson, 20, an Edinburgh University biology student, said he was hoping to make it to Preston from Edinburgh to make a medical appointment. He said: "It is slightly annoying when you find out it's a strike over workers not wanting to work an eight-hour day. I have to be back for Friday as well so I'm worried how I'm going to do this."
