Disabled shop access criticised
Wheelchair user
Ms Patch wants businesses to be more aware of access problems
A wheelchair user in Guernsey says shop owners in St Peter Port and The Bridge are losing valuable trade because of poor access.

Sam Patch says businesses often have steps or high thresholds, making access very difficult or impossible.

"For the shops which don't bother it's just like them saying 'oh well we don't want your business'," she said.

The mobility pressure group RAMP claimed last year the States did not consult the group over access issues.

RAMP says despite the limitations of St Peter Port's historic buildings, more should be done for people with mobility and sight problems.

Meanwhile a telephone hotline set up to offer advice to people with disabilities in the island has been awarded the DIAL UK Quality Standard.

The national award is given in recognition of the service offered by the Disablement Information and Advice Line.
