Plans to make it easier for people to become farmers in Jersey are being discussed by the States.
Currently the law dictates that anyone buying land for farming should, in most cases, already be earning an income from the agricultural industry.
Chris Newton, head of the States environment department, wants a change in the law to allow others an opportunity to become farmers.
He says investment is needed to help develop the island's rural economy.
