Island skateboard park is opened

A purpose-built skate park which features metal-framed ramps has been opened in Jersey.

The open air park, which is on the old TNT site on the New North Quay in St Helier, was officially opened during a ceremony on Monday afternoon.

Jake Hipwell, president of the Channel Island Skateboard Association, said the park would give young people a much-needed space to spend their spare time.

Assistant Sport Minister Ben Fox said it should inspire similar facilities.

Minister Fox said: "What we can do now is look at other specialised pieces of equipment that we can put in other parts of the island."

The park will be run by the Education, Sport and Culture Department.
