Flooding risk starts to subside

Many parts of the county have been affected by flooding

Water levels on the River Thames in parts of Oxfordshire and Berkshire have stabilised and the flood risk has reduced, the Environment Agency says.

However, the agency said a flood warning was still active along the river from Shiplake, near Henley, to Hurley Lock, near Maidenhead.

A warning is also in force at the River Thame from Chislehampton to Drayton St Leonard and also at Purley, Berkshire.

Agency spokesman Keith Ledd said they were watching the situation closely.

"We have staff out on site at the moment, some doing an ambassador role linking up with the public, others are doing clearance work," he said.

Earlier on Thursday, more than 500 homes in the Thames Valley area were at risk of flooding after thawing snow and heavy rain combined to raise river levels.

The agency has advised anyone wanting further information to contact their floodline on 0845 988 1188 and enter area number 01112.
