A telephone survey on a major shake-up in healthcare in the Greater Bristol area has shown "wide support", say the plans' proponents.
The Bristol Health Services Plan is looking at concentrating specialist treatment at hospitals in the city.
It also wants to offer other services at a number of sites across the area.
Six out of ten people, from the 650 surveyed in November, were aware of the plans. A final decision will not be taken until next March.
Deborah Evans, from the Health Services Plan, said: "It was very heartening also that most people felt the plans would improve health services generally although there was some concern about access."
The survey found:
Awareness is focussed on hospital provision
When prompted, four out of ten people were aware that Bristol General was to close
With the exception of access-related concerns, people feel the changes will have a positive impact
Frenchay Hospital was the preferred choice for the new hospital
The aim of the shake-up is to provide more community-based services, closer to people's homes, to allow health professionals to work closer together, says the NHS.
