Parents are to stage a demonstration outside Durham County Hall in a last-ditch attempt to save their village school from closure.
Up to 40 people are expected to gather on Wednesday morning to protest over plans to shut Hamsteels primary school in Esh Winning.
Durham County Council's cabinet voted in favour of merging it with a bigger primary school earlier this month.
The public now has six weeks in which to comment on the closure plans.
'Very determined'
The proposal is to merge Hamsteels with Esh Winning Primary School, which is about a mile away in the village.
Council leaders say the school is too expensive to maintain and has falling pupil numbers.
Dawn Gardiner, who has two children at the school, has organised the demonstration.
She said: "We are very determined and we are not going to give the school up without a fight.
"Parents are gutted about this plan and it will affect the children as they have to leave their teachers behind."
