Council house flood bill 900,000

Flooding in Elgin
Moray has been affected by flooding in recent years

The bill for repairing flood damage to council homes in Moray after last month's flooding will reach about £900,000, it has been announced.

Most of the homes affected were in Elgin, where the River Lossie burst its banks following heavy rainfall. Houses in Fochabers and Rothes were also hit.

Dozens of families are still in temporary accommodation while their homes are dried out and refurbished.

Moray Council said it was too early to say how long this would take.

The recent flooding was the third such major incident to hit the area in 12 years.

Similar flooding problems happened in Elgin in 1997 and again in 2002.
