Swansea City

Swansea head coach Vitor Matos said his side were able to control Burnley's technical players in their 3-1 victory.

"I think it was quite complete in different phases of the game," he told BBC Wales.

"With the ball we had really good moments that gave us the initiative and the control and the right positions to push Burnley back.

"We knew Burnley are a good team attacking. They have really technical players and the right speed to find the pockets.

"We were able to control that for moments so I think it was a good game.

"It was important to see players from the bench impact the game. That's what happened when we got the third goal and then we were back in control."

Burnley

Burnley's dreadful start to the season continued with defeat at Swansea to leave the Clarets winless and bottom of the Championship.

Head coach Nicky Hayen said:

"Swansea won the game today but we lost it in the first half. We started actually quite well, we created as many opportunities as Swansea in the first half, but we made two individual mistakes and we are 2-0 down.

"They managed the boxes better than we are doing at the moment. Second half we said we cannot change the mistakes, we came out with a fresh energy.

"We tried to find that goal that would maybe change their mood, but then they scored the third goal and it's difficult.

"Their accuracy on the ball was much higher than ours, this for me was the biggest difference today for me."

Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn lifted a degree of the gloom around Ewood Park with victory over Millwall to climb up to 15th in the table following a four-match winless run.

Manager Tony Mowbray told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"We were probably more effective and efficient against Sheffield United but found a way to lose that game.

"There were some impressive individual performances and the substitutes didn’t weaken the team. Andri Gudjohnsen was exceptional when he came on.

"If we’d lost today questions might have started to be asked. Consistency is what is required."

On Afolayan: "He’s a really bright, intelligent kid who loves football, who watches football, and has an opinion on everything.

"When I say ‘You’re not working hard enough’ he has an answer and knows what I’m talking about, so I feel I can connect with him to make him the best version of himself, and that’s not always the case with footballers."

Preston North End

Preston North End manager Paul Heckingbottom lamented his side's inability to defend Lincoln's set-pieces as his struggling side left the field at Deepdale to boos.

He told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"It was no surprise in terms of how difficult that game was and the pattern of the game.

"We are really frustrated that 90% of the time their threats, because we limited the number of corners and set plays, we did deal with them.

"But it's ultimately their biggest weapon and while we are not getting in front, they are going to have their opportunities with counter attacks and set plays.

"The only way to stop that noise [sounds of boos from some fans] at the end of the game is to win games.

"There is no lack of effort, I get that, but we are not the ones forcing the big moments to go our way."

Stoke City

Stoke manager Mark Robins said his side showed "outstanding bravery" to beat Watford 2-1.

"I've got to say that they looked like teams I've had in the past," he told BBC Radio Stoke.

"My players showed outstanding bravery, and a willingness to keep going. We had lots of support from the stands and that drove us on. It was so important to get that support.

"We'll enjoy this result, keep our feet on the ground, and then work towards next week against Sheffield United.

"It was a really good level of performance and if we can kick on from this then that is the aim, but we'll stay humble."

Lincoln City

Lincoln City's second win of the season lifted the promoted club up to 16th and head coach Tom Shaw told BBC Radio Lincolnshire:

"We wanted our lads to be a bit more calm a bit more confident in possession, which we did.

"We don’t ever want to indulge, we don’t want to be that football team, we want to threaten the goal from everywhere but there are games, and we are learning that’s it maybe a bit more away from home, that we need to have bit more of the ball if we can and it’s the right thing to do.

"[Possession] is the stat we probably look at last. When we are reflecting on the game, it’s more the feel of the game and we just didn’t want to give the ball back too easy today because they have some real quality player that will hurt you, like Alfie Devine, if you get it wrong.

"So we wanted to be in charge of some situations, which we did brilliantly in the first half when we got into good areas where we could have been a bit better and bit more aggressive around the goal.

"But that stuff will come. And then we had our aggressive moment in the penalty area in the second half that decided the game."

Watford

Watford fell to a third defeat in four games at home to Stoke, with a consolation goal at the end adding some gloss to an underwhelming performance.

Head coach Alessio Dionisi told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"My players were tired from the start. It’s normal when you play every three days for nine matches, two in the Carabao Cup and seven matches in the Championship, it's difficult.

"When you arrive without the players it’s difficult because, for example, today on the bench there weren’t midfielders and defenders."

On new signing Michail Antonio: “Michail is important in this moment for the team, for the mentality because he’s a top man, but now he’s not ready.

"I don’t know how many weeks Michail will need, but he will work to be ready soon, I hope."

Millwall

Millwall's poor run at Ewood Park continues as their 3-1 loss to struggling Blackburn means they have not won in that corner of Lancashire since an FA Cup tie in 2013.

Lions manager Alex Neil told BBC Radio London:

"I said to the lads at half-time that the pace of the game, the tempo was flat and to concede made it even worse, because I didn’t really think there was anything in the match.

"It was such a soft goal, a cut-back and we’d spoken about it all week, making sure we didn’t get done down the sides and then cut-backs.

"I made a couple of changes at half time to try to bring a little bit of life to the second half and we started the second half really well, got the penalty, got the goal, and looked like the team that was going to go on and win the game.

"The second goal was disappointing. We didn’t get down the line of the ball quick enough and the lad shifts it onto his left foot and puts it in the corner.

"It’s a wasted opportunity because we could have won the game today."

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough came out on top in a Championship classic at the Riverside.

Mo Toure started the scoring for Norwich after 47 seconds but Boro importantly ended it in the closing stages with Ash Phillips securing a 4-3 win for the division's fourth-placed team.

Boro head coach Kim Hellberg told BBC Radio Tees:

"This is why football is the most beautiful sport in the world. As a neutral, this must have been absolutely crazy.

"As a manager, it was quite harrowing and the hair I have left will be grey, but the lads won it at the end by showing character and that is very, very strong.

"It was beautiful to see two teams going against each other that want to play football, want to be in control of the game, that believe in their own qualities. It was as good a game as you can get for the Championship.

"What an absolutely beautiful football game for the neutral and for supporters, emotions everywhere, but two teams who respect each other both going at it."

Bristol City

Bristol City's three-game winning run came to an end with their 4-1 defeat by Southampton.

The Robins boss Michael Skubala has been speaking to BBC Radio Bristol:

"It wasn't a 4-1 scoreline, it flattered them but they can do that, they can hurt you.

"We should have scored at least one if not two in the first half and it's a different game.

"We got back in it well and we just needed to manage the game better in the last 30 minutes and not be so open whilst chasing - we didn't need to go so open so early.

"In the first half we were the better team - at 2-1 we're still in the game but at 3-1 the game is done."

Southampton

It is four successive home wins and 15 goals scored for Southampton who are up into the top eight in the Championship.

Head coach Tonda Eckert has told BBC Radio Solent:

"If you see the block of games that we (have) come from now it's not easy, especially if you then face a team who had a whole week to prepare for the game.

"The midweek game against Swansea we knew that we have to run more and we did run more and more intense that we have all season.

"Obviously that takes takes a toll, that's just the reality so early on in the season and then I think it was just different energy levels on the pitch today.

"Then still to find a way I think deserves all the credit, so this one today belongs to the players."

Portsmouth

Portsmouth made it successive clean sheets as they held Charlton to a goalless draw at The Valley.

Pompey boss John Mousinho has told BBC Radio Solent:

"It's a good point away from home and another clean sheet which is positive.

"We pressed more aggressively [in the second half] and for me it was about having a bit more energy and landing on second balls as we were a bit flat in the first half.

"We could have nicked it at any point in the second half - I was confident we were going to go on and win the game and create more chances."

Southampton

Cyle Larin scored a brace for Southampton to make it eight goals for the season in all competitions for the Championship's August player of the month.

After the win over Bristol City the Canada international has told BBC Radio Solent:

"It was tough, just because of the amount of games we are playing in a short time.

"We worked really hard to get that win, stuck together as a team.

"We've got a lot of guys who can score and pass the ball, we're only getting better as a team and finding our rhythm.

"It's only the beginning of the season - we can't get too high, just keep level headed and keep working."

On scoring seven goals in the past seven games:

"It feels good but I can't do it without my team and the coach too who gives me the trust to play free up there and that's what I'm doing."

• In their 6-0 win against Wrexham, six different West Ham United players scored in the same league match for the first time in the club’s history.
• Having lost three of their first four home league games in 2026 (D1), West Brom are now unbeaten in each of their last 11 at the Hawthorns (W4 D7).
• Derby have lost four of their last five home league games – including the last three in a row – having won six consecutively at Pride Park Stadium beforehand.
• Despite conceding first, Middlesbrough went ahead against Norwich after six minutes and 18 seconds. It’s the earliest a team has taken the lead having been behind in a Championship match since October 2023 (Leeds against Middlesbrough, 06:10).
• Burnley are winless in their last 19 league games (D7 L12) – only once in their history have they had a longer run, going 24 games between April and November 1979.
• Lyndon Dykes’ penalty equaliser for Millwall at Blackburn was his 50th goal in all competitions in English football (37 for QPR, 7 for Birmingham, 3 for Charlton, 3 for Millwall).
• Since the start of February, Southampton’s Cyle Larin has scored more Championship goals than any other player (15), netting a brace against Bristol City today.

QPR

Queens Park Rangers head coach Julian Stephan told BBC Radio London:

"I give a lot of credit to the players to earn a point like this.

"I think it was a tough game - we knew before that we faced today the leaders, a team with very great confidence and I think we managed the situation quite well .

"Tactically it was good, we locked the main spaces today with intelligence.

"The only regret that I can have is to concede the goal just after we scored - it was too quickly and it was a situation where two times we had the opportunity to win the ball in between and he finished with a good goal.

"We had the best chance in the second half as well with Kwame, the keeper did a great save, but I have to say as well that they had more control than us today, but they had the control more in the midfield positions, so it was not really dangerous for us."

West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion head coach James Morrison told BBC WM:

"It was a positive point.

"I think first half we had good control, they hit us on the break probably from our mistake, it hit Meps in the face and goes in.

"But we showed good character really to come back with a nice-worked goal.

"I think the game opened up in the second half, we had some spells, they had some spells, it was just that last little bit really and I think for a neutral it was a good game of football.

"But I'm pleased with the lads, they gave everything again, seven points in a week, so it's a positive week."

Birmingham City

Birmingham City ended a three-game winless run as they came from behind to win at Derby at lunchtime.

Blues head coach Chris Davies has been talking to BBC Radio WM:

"It was a game that had a bit of everything and we were well worth the win.

"We made a good start and against the run of play we gave away a sloppy goal but it was good to score so quickly afterwards.

"We had a character about us and grit and we'll need that this season and we dug in at the end."

Derby County

Derby County fell to a third successive league defeat at home to Birmingham City.

The Rams had taken the lead through Bobby Clark.

Boss John Eustace told BBC Radio Derby:

"It's another game we didn't deserve to lose but we conceded two very soft goals.

"We didn't defend the far post properly [for the first goal] - the lads are saying there was a foul [for the second goal] but we've got to be stronger.

"The lads have been as good as they can, working as hard as they can - the back four is chopping and changing a lot and until we can have a settled team and stable back four we're going to have issues."
