A US missile attack inside Yemen kills six alleged al-Qaeda members including Ali Qaed Senyan al-Harthi, whom the US has linked to the attack on the warship USS Cole off Aden in October 2000.

A recording allegedly of Osama Bin Laden is broadcast on the Arabic TV station al-Jazeera. The speaker refers to attacks in Bali, Yemen and Moscow � indicating that if it is Bin Laden he was still alive at the time of the Moscow theatre siege. Voice experts believe that it is indeed his voice.

A 21-year-old man known only as Mohsen F is arrested in Kuwait, accused of plotting to blow up a hotel in the Yemeni capital Sana�a which was used by Americans.

US officials say they are holding Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri - believed to be the leader of the al-Qaeda's operations in the Gulf.

Two attacks are launched against Israeli targets in Mombasa, Kenya. A hotel blast kills 16 - including the three suicide bombers - and a missile is fired but misses an Israeli plane. A message on a website purporting to come form al-Qaeda claims the group carried out the attack.
