A pupil at a high school in Jersey has been tested for the swine flu virus.

The student, who attends Les Quennevais School in St Brelade, was tested after coming into contact with a confirmed case of the virus.

The school remains open and the results of the test are expected to be known within the next few days.

Staff and pupils who attended lessons with the student before they fell ill have been advised to take the anti-viral drug, Tamiflu, as a precaution.

On Thursday the States revealed that two new cases of swine flu had been confirmed on the island, bringing the total number of confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus in the Channel Island to three.

However, the patient confirmed to have the virus last week has recovered.
