Yellow bird's-nest (Monotropa hypopitys) is endangered. This odd-looking saprophytic perennial herb produces no food of its own (hence no leaves, no chlorophyll and its yellow colour) and lives on dead and decaying plant material in the soil.

Its losses in southern England are probably due to changes in woodland management.
