Lime lover

Holly fern (Polystichum lonchitis) is an evergreen alpine that is small but long-lived. The vulnerable plant likes upland locations - lime-rich rocks in cool, moist positions at the base of mountain cliffs. It also grows in the deep grikes of limestone pavements.

Some sites were lost to collecting before 1930 during a Victorian fern craze.
