Why are so many goal times given in the papers, on TV and radio as "90 minutes"?
Most goal times are reported at 90 minutes are incorrect. The Press Association send flashes from all grounds as goals go in, but no allowance is made for those scored in added time.
There have been instances in a game of two (once even three) goals reported in the 90th minute, which is barely possible. Match play is limited to 90 minutes and to be accurate a goal scored in, say, the third minute of added time should be recorded as "90 + 3".

Is it true that Mark Hughes once scored a goal for Southampton, but no-one "saw" it and it was not given?
I put your question to Mark and this is his reply: "Yes, I did once pop one in for the Saints - not that I scored too many for them - when the ball rebounded from the stanchion at the back of goal and the game continued. But I don't remember who it was against."

I've heard that Crystal Palace were relegated from the Premiership in the 90s with 41 points. Is that true? And what is the highest total of points for a relegated team?
At the end of the Premiership's first season, 1992-93, Crystal Palace went down with 49 points. That remains the highest "relegation total" in the history of the Premiership.
Since the programme changed to 38 matches in 1995-96, the most points for a relegated club is 40, by Sunderland in 1996-97 and by Bolton in 1997-98.

Who was the manager when Blackburn Rovers won the old Third Division in 1975?
Gordon Lee was manager of that Blackburn side. Kenny Dalglish took them up to the Premier League in 1992 - and to the Championship in 1995. Rovers have had five managers since Dalglish: Ray Harford, Roy Hodgson, Brian Kidd, Tony Parkes and, since March 2000, Graeme Souness, who took them back into the Premier League in 2001.

What is the shortest tenure a manager has served in the modern game?
How modern is "modern"? Going back to the 1990s, that would be Kevin Cullis, who managed Swansea City for just seven days in February 1996. The shortest-term big-club manager during this period was Steve Coppell, who was in charge at Manchester City for 32 days in October and November in 1996.

When was the last time Everton finished higher than Liverpool in the League?
That happened twice in three seasons in the 1980s - when Everton were champions and Liverpool runners-up in 1984-85 and 1986-87. It looks like being nip and tuck between them this season to take the title "Top of Merseyside" on League positions.
Robin, England

Mabbutt scored for both sides in that final: for Spurs after 40 minutes and then debited with an own goal for Coventry's extra-time winner (90 + 6).
