Train services to London from Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex are facing delays due to the suspected theft of signalling cables.

The equipment was reportedly snatched near Beaulieu Park station in Chelmsford in the early hours of Sunday.

"Services are having to run at a much reduced speed through the area, on all lines, leading to delays and congestion," the train operator posted on X.

Engineers from Network Rail have been investigating the issue on-site and warned delays would continue until at least 15:00 BST.

Journeys to London Liverpool Street from Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester and Clacton-on-Sea are all affected.

Some trains could be cancelled or terminated early, Greater Anglia said.

British Transport Police said it had received reports of the theft at about 04:40 BST.
