A dog grooming business is seeking planning permission to expand to offer daycare services.

The proposals for the site on Heworth Road in Concord, Washington, include moving the existing dog grooming facilities into a smaller room and using the main floorspace to accommodate the proposed dog daycare.

A planning statement submitted to Sunderland City Council said the facility would improve local access to the service and reduce the need for residents to travel further afield.

The site would accommodate up to seven additional dogs for daycare, alongside the existing four daily grooming clients, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Planning documents said the hours of operation would "not extend into early morning and later evening periods where residents can reasonably expect peace and quiet".

It was also noted there would be two collection periods with the aim of helping manage parking and traffic around the site.

A decision is expected following a consultation.
