A number of homes have been evacuated in a Leicestershire town after a suspected explosive device was found.

Police said they were called to Station Road, Bagworth, shortly before 12:00 BST on Saturday after a suspicious object was uncovered in a garden.

A cordon was set up and nearby residents asked to leave as a precaution while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) were alerted.

Once EOD officers arrived they examined the device and removed it from the scene and householders were allowed to return by 16:00. Police have not confirmed what the object was nor how many homes were evacuated.
