A fly-tipper has been made to pay £1,200 after dumping an arcade machine and other household rubbish on a mountain in the Swansea Valley.

A fridge-freezer and a gaming chair were also found among the waste near Gwrhyd Road in Rhiwfawr in April.

An investigation by enforcement officers from Neath Port Talbot Council led them to Wayne Thompson, 41, of Brecon Road, Ystradgynlais.

He pleaded guilty to depositing controlled waste without lawful authority during a hearing before magistrates in Swansea.

Thompson was fined £440 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £176 and prosecution costs of £631.

Cabinet member and councillor Scott Jones said: "This successful prosecution demonstrates that Neath Port Talbot Council will investigate incidents thoroughly and take appropriate enforcement action against those responsible.

"Fly-tipping blights our communities, damages the environment and costs taxpayers' money to clear up.

"We would encourage anyone who witnesses fly-tipping to report it so that we can continue to take action against offenders."

Thompson admitted to depositing controlled waste without lawful authority, contrary to Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 before city magistrates on 17 September.
