A man has died after being hit by a car in Ashton-under-Lyne.

The 79-year-old was struck by a Toyota Yaris on Huddersfield Road, at about 14:40 BST on Thursday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Police believe the vehicle was turning off the main road when it collided with the pedestrian. The man was taken to hospital but has since died from his injuries, the force said.

The driver remained at the scene and no arrests have been made, GMP said. The force appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has footage in the moments leading up to it to come forward.
