Residents are being asked for their views on how a local authority can improve its future strategy for road safety.

West Northamptonshire Council has started a public consultation on its draft road safety strategy, which will set out how the Reform UK-controlled authority aims to improve road safety up to 2045.

It will look at ways to reduce deaths and serious injuries, and ways to help people feel safer when walking, riding a horse, bicycle or motorcycle, or driving.

"Everyone should be able to travel safely, no matter how they choose to do it," said Richard Butler, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport.

The council said that 134 people were killed or seriously injured on roads in West Northamptonshire in 2025.

The draft strategy includes plans to tackle speeding, improve safety for children and vulnerable road users, and work more closely with local communities and partner organisations.

"Too many people are still being killed or seriously injured on our roads," said Butler.

"This strategy sets out our ideas for making roads safer, but we want to hear what people think."

The council said the consultation would remain open until 6 December, with the final strategy to be considered by its cabinet in spring 2027.
