Dog destroyed after series of sheep deaths
BBCA dog suspected to have carried out a series of fatal sheep attacks has been put down, police have said.
On 20 September rural officers launched an investigation after at least 35 sheep were killed and "dozens more" suffered serious injuries in Mid Devon.
Providing an update on the investigation, Devon and Cornwall Police said it was informed on 25 September a dog was found to be attacking livestock had been "sadly destroyed".
The destroyed dog was believed to be the same one responsible for other attacks in recent weeks, the force said.
Rural affairs officer PC Lucy Wyatt reminded dog owners of their responsibilities.
"Owners should ensure their dogs remain under control at all times and are aware of the impact that livestock worrying can have on farming communities," she said.
"Livestock attacks can cause significant distress and financial loss to farmers, and owners may face criminal investigation where dogs are involved in chasing, injuring or attacking livestock."
She thanked those who had come forward with information to assist with police inquiries.
Anyone who witnesses livestock worrying or a dog acting dangerously around livestock was encouraged to report it to police.
