Man jailed for sexual abuse and attempted rape

A man has been jailed for more than 20 years for sexually abusing two girls and trying to rape a woman.

Jawhir Kasir, 47, from Coventry, sexually assaulted the children between 2006 and 2008, with the attempted rape following in 2010, West Midlands Police said.

He was arrested at Birmingham Airport on 26 November after all three of his victims came forward to report Kasir's crimes last year, the force added.

Kasir, of no fixed address, was convicted of seven sex offences in total following a trial and was sentenced to 22 years in prison at Warwick Crown Court on 22 September.

Officers used video-recorded interviews with those Kasir targeted.

This meant that when he stood trial earlier this year, the videos were played to the court instead of the women having to repeat their statements in person, police said.

A force spokesperson encouraged victims and survivors of sexual assault or rape to come forward when they felt able to do so.

"You can report a sexual assault or rape that happened at any time to us, even if it was months, years or decades ago," they said.

"We take every report seriously, no matter how much time has passed."
