Plymouth Parkway sell out FA Cup first round tie
ShutterstockPlymouth Parkway have sold out the ticket allocation for their first-ever appearance in the FA Cup first round.
The seventh-tier side will host Southern League Premier Division South rivals Berkhamsted on 9 November at Bolitho Park, with the match due to be televised.
Parkway reached the first round proper after a 2-0 win over another seventh-tier side, Chertsey Town, at Bolitho Park on 19 October.
Parkway would not confirm the exact number of tickets sold, but said it well exceeded 2,000.
Plymouth Parkway are based less than two and a half miles from League One side Plymouth Argyle and their maiden appearance in the FA Cup first round is the latest positive for a club formed as a park football team less than 40 years ago.
They currently occupy one of their highest-ever league positions and are in talks about overseas investment with the aim of one day reaching the English Football League.
Speaking after the win over Chertsey, Plymouth Parkway boss Karl Curtis said FA Cup progression was a boost for the club's finances but added it was also about continuing their upward trajectory.
"The obvious thing is the finances, but from a footballing perspective for me it's belief and it's continuing the momentum," he said.
"We've done absolutely nothing yet, but we've had a really positive start and it just continues that momentum.
"The boys in that changing room are starting to really believe in themselves as a group and what we could do."
If Curtis' side can get past Berkhamsted they will pick up £47,750 in prize money and will have their eyes set on drawing a team from the EFL in the second round.
