Two new buses due to begin service in the next couple of weeks will help improve the island's service, a Stagecoach boss has said.

Managing director Peter Knight acknowledged there had been "a couple of challenges" in recent months in Guernsey, but insisted "things are in a better place".

He and the president of the Environment and Infrastructure Committee, Adrian Gabriel, met last week after complaints about delayed and cancelled bus journeys in recent months.

Knight said the firm was recruiting more drivers and extending the Stagecoach shop's and telephone line's opening times in order to deliver "the reliable and dependable service" passengers wanted.

Two new electric buses currently in a storage compound were due to come into service in the next two or three weeks, he added.
