Doors open at £1.4m 'safe space' youth centre
City of Doncaster CouncilA new youth centre in Doncaster will offer visitors aged eight to 25 a "safe, supportive space" where they can make friends and learn skills, the city council said.
Wheatley Youth Hub on Parkway South is backed by £1.4m of funding from the government, and will offer sport, art and educational skills as well as wellbeing support.
To mark the launch, the centre is offering afternoon open events during the half-term holiday, as well as a Halloween party on Friday.
City of Doncaster Council said the centre marked an "important investment" in the future of Wheatley, recognising the importance of providing accessible community spaces to encourage confidence, resilience and aspiration.
Councillor Sue Farmer, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families, said the centre would have a positive impact on many local families and young people.
"I am delighted to see this new youth centre open its doors in Wheatley," she said.
"Young people deserve safe, supportive spaces where they can make friends, develop new skills and access the help they need to achieve their ambitions.
"This centre will provide invaluable opportunities for young people across the community, helping them to build confidence, improve their wellbeing and feel connected to the people and services around them.
"I look forward to seeing the positive difference it will make for many years to come."
