Heavy rain is forecast for the island

Most ferry sailings scheduled for Friday have been cancelled while 10 other journeys remain at risk from tomorrow until Sunday.

Forecasters at Ronaldsway Met Office have issued a yellow warning for heavy rain from 03:00 BST on Friday until 15:00.

Rain will become "persistent and heavy tonight", before gradually easing and petering out later tomorrow morning and early afternoon, forecasters said.

As a result of the weather warning, the Steam Packet Company announced the Manannan sailing to Larne, Ben My Chree journey to Heysham and Manannan crossing to Liverpool - as well as the returns had all been cancelled.

The only sailings still continuing as scheduled at the moment is the Ben My Chree Heysham to Douglas route at 02:15 and the return at 19:30.

The firm apologised for any delays caused and said affected passengers could amend their bookings.

Due to the 12-hour warning in place, forecasters are warning there is also a risk of localised flooding, particularly where drains are blocked.

Ronaldsway Airport have not yet said if there will be any disruptions to scheduled flights.

'Take extra care'

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is also warning people to "take extra care" and be alert for fallen trees and branches.

It has advised against visiting wooded area where possible until Sunday.

The government urged people to report storm damage in any of the glens or plantations by emailing [email protected].
