Man admits killing fiancée after 'love bombing'

A man has admitted stabbing and killing his fiancee at her home in Leeds after "love bombing" her, West Yorkshire Police has said.

Jack Johns pleaded guilty to murdering Malgorzata Wiktor, also known as Gosia, at Leeds Crown Court earlier.

The 52-year-old had been in a relationship with Gosia, 51, for about six months before he attacked her at her house in Foster Square, Belle Isle, in June.

Johns, of School Street in Tingley, has been remanded into custody and will be sentenced on 9 November.

Police said Gosia's son called 999 on the morning of 11 June after finding out his mother had not arrived at work and he could not get into her house.

When officers forced their way in they found Johns lying unconscious on top of Gosia, with a claw hammer and knife on the floor nearby.

He was taken to hospital, having taken an overdose of medication and alcohol, while Gosia was pronounced dead a short time later.

The force said officers discovered the couple had been in a relationship for around six months, and had recently got engaged.

They said Gosia's family and friends described Johns as having behaved in a controlling way toward her and "love bombing" her.

Det Insp Hannah Dixon, from West Yorkshire Police's homicide and major enquiry team, said: "This was a sustained attack with Johns causing extensive injuries to the woman he claimed to love.

"Our investigation found there had been concerns from both sides of their families and from Gosia's friends about some of the behaviour shown by Johns in their relatively short but intense relationship.

"It is clear how well liked and loved Gosia was, and I am glad for her friends and family that Johns has admitted responsibility and spared them the further distress of a trial."
