Demolition of city centre car park begins
BBCDemolition work has started on a multi-storey car park in Nottingham city centre.
The NCP car park in Maid Marian Way is being torn down as part of the wider redevelopment of the Broad Marsh area of the city.
Traffic restrictions in the area have caused disruption, with warnings of "severe congestion" for drivers.
On Monday, diversions in place ahead of the demolition led to delays for bus and tram services in the city.
Homes England, the government's housing and regeneration agency, bought the Broad Marsh site last year with plans to turn it into about 1,000 homes, alongside up to 20,000 sq m (215,000 sq ft) of retail, office and community space.
Traffic cannot pass through the car park's underpass while the demolition is ongoing.
Homes England said the road layout was likely to stay in place until late October or November, depending on progress, and has apologised to "everyone who has been impacted".
The former Bluecoat sixth form college on the other side of Maid Marian Way is also due to be demolished.
Preparatory work to demolish what remains of the former Broadmarsh shopping centre started earlier this year.
In August, Homes England said it was in the process of appointing a developer, with an announcement due early next year.
Construction could then begin in 2028, but no date has been set for its completion.
It follows decades of proposals for the site which have failed to materialise.
