Firefighters have urged people to avoid part of a village after a blaze in a terraced house in the early hours of the morning.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said four fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze in The Sands in Ashington, near Pulborough, just after 02:00 GMT.

A fire service spokesperson said no casualties were reported, and that it had returned to reinspect the site at about 07:45 GMT and found no further signs of fire.

People were advised to avoid the area, and nearby residents were also urged to close their windows and doors to avoid smoke, a spokesperson said on social media.
